Ahhh, the weather has been beautiful the past couple of days here in the NW. central Pa. I have noticed the increase of large tank trucks carrying water to the gas wells and well waste to..who knows, has begun. This is but the tip of the iceberg. I have come to the conclusion that the battle to preserve the enviroment here in "the Wilds of Pa" is all but lost.
The wave of leaseing companies that came through here two years ago got what they wanted. hundreds of thousands of acres of mineral right leases. They flashed some big money in front of landowners without them knowing the whole story, and they signed it away. Additional leases of thousands of acres (31,947 acres to be exact) of "Public" land in Our state forests (land that was meant to be protected) has been leased to the Gas & Oil companies. Now they will do their "Drill Baby Drill" act and decimate what was once the last vestiges of forest lands in Pa.
Do yourself a favor and visit this beautiful area before the onslaught gains momentum. The state has dropped the ball on inspections (even though they've hired a couple new inspectors). and there is NO infrustruture within the state to handle the massive amounts of Toxic well wastes that will be produced from the Millions of Gallons of water drawn from local wells, creeks, and reservors. The private land owners will soon find out what they have signed away, as the Gas developers cut numerous access roads,right-of-ways for pipelines, and dig sump pits, holding ponds, and quarries (for materials to build all those access roads.
in the next 15 years the "Wilds of Pa" will be turned into an industrial zone. Unless more is done to slow down this juggernaut from getting out of hand!
