notes as I go along
Not the most eloquent of speakers. Very jerky speech
Started on a somber note
Biden looks like he is ready to jump up and shout AMEN at every word Obama says
How did the bank bailout programs become more transparent under Obama?
What taxes did he cut? My payroll withholdings went up this year as a result of higher taxes.

Jobs to be the focus of 2010
New job bill – true engine of job creation is American businesses – start with small businesses - $30 billion that big banks repaid and give to smaller banks to invest in the community – tax credit to small who hire workers or raise wages - investing in roads and rails – slash tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas –
New foundation for long term growth –
Financial reform –
Building new nuclear power plants – good
Opening up off shore gas and oil – good
Clean coal – good
Exporting more goods – good means more jobs for us

College education and reforms are great but what about elementary and high school kids?
Health care reform
Tightening spending
Freeze for 3 years – threatening to enforce by veto – extending middle class tax cuts – senate should restore pay as you go law – freeze takes place next year (2011) –
Wife thought he sounded sarcastic tonight
End lobbyist, work openly – has’t doen it yet
Excluded lobbyists????? Not true
Against the SC decision of campaign contributions of companies
Earmark reform – good – posting it for all the public to see on one website before a vote is good

Repealing don’t ask don’t tell - not good
Fix broken immigration laws - good

Biden looks like Bert
O man is in fantasy land and the sheep will follow by blind belief.
He hit on every topic in the news media. His writers watch CNN. When did the banks pay back "most" of the tarp? Oh yea we are paying it back through higher cc rates and low to no interest on savings accounts.
O man been on for over 60 minutes. Man is he hot winded.

My wife was watching too and she is not into politics at all but she said that Obama came off with a scolding tone, a condensending tone through most of the speech. Looking back through the speech I can see where she can get that impression.
As far as his speaking, it started off jerkey. A lot of starting sentences and long awkward breaks in words or phrases but after the first 10 minutes he hit his stride. Could be nerves.
He referred to the Bush years twice and only said "Make no mistake" once.
There were a few inconsistancies and outright misrepresentations and a few grand plans that didn't sound that they had much of a plan behind them.
The shot to the Supreme Court was suprising as his desire to repeal "don't ask don't tell". I am wondering where my middle class tax cut is that he said he accomplished. My payroll withholdings have gone up this year, not down.
$30 billion from big banks that repay (if they repay) to go to small community banks to invest in local businesses and the community is great but sounds like a redistribution of wealth plan. Ambitious but the reality is that the banks are going to be using your money, in the forms of new and increased fees, to repay that $30 million.
His education part of the speech focused only on college educations. Missing was all the education that leads up to college. If we don't work on improving elementary, middle and high schools those kids will never get into a college. I was disappointed that there was not more mentioned about grade schools.
I liked his earmark reform plan but again very ambitious. But I would love to see this put into place.
These are just a few of the things that I got out of last night for now.

I agree with your wife.
I liked it when he said for the folks in the house and senate to be bold even if you will lose your job to vote for health care. FAT CHANCE!!!!
I was shocked to hear him talk about off shore drilling. Remember McCain and Palin "drill baby drill"
GL education for early grades you can forget. It will take the locals to change it. Just accountability would help.

I agree, that was shocking and yet open ended. It was, IMO, a good sound byte but there was not plan or substance behind the words.
