Paranormal investigators might have snapped a ghost at Allenberry
By M. Diane McCormick, The Patriot-News
October 29, 2009, 7:15PM
View full sizeSubmitted photoHarrisburg Area Paranormal Investigators say that's a ghost going into a room at the Allenberry Resort Inn and Playhouse.
It’s a typical photo. A man is walking into a hotel room. The door frame blocks his face. He’s wearing blue jeans and white sneakers.
The problem? Nobody was in the Allenberry Resort Inn and Playhouse’s hallway on Sept. 21 when Jared Culton snapped the picture.
The ghost busters of Harrisburg Area Paranormal Investigators, or HAPI, have recorded a few odd things since the firm was founded in 2001, but Allenberry’s apparent tourist-ghost has everyone stumped.
Allenberry Service Manager Kelley Heinlen claims many ghostly experiences in her 18 years with the facility near Boiling Springs, Cumberland County – a spinning bed on a stage set, lights without switches coming on by themselves, a shadowy column in a sunny office.
But even Heinlen is skeptical about the picture of the man entering the hotel room. On one hand, it’s nobody she knows, and no one was in the lodge the night HAPi investigated widespread claims of ghosts at the Boiling Springs theater, dining and lodging complex. Plus, many guests have complained about an unexpected visitor in that very room, she said.
On the other hand, the shot could have been taken two weeks earlier, when HAPi manager Culton first scouted the building and people were around, she said. And the photo of the man walking into Room 205 just looks “too real,” Heinlen said.
Culton insists the shot was taken in the empty building and wasn't staged. “I just don’t see what the benefit would be to a nonprofit group,” he said. “We are extremely used to running into skepticism everywhere we go. Even people who might be experiencing some things don’t welcome us with open arms.”
HAPI founder Nick Wolfe, 23, said HAPi’s services are free because he “can’t justify charging for my services when everything we do is based on theory.” The Newberry Twp. resident said HAPi does one or two investigations a month, free of charge. He’s a skeptic and seeks explanations for otherworldly events, he said.
“I’ve never seen a 100 percent ghost come up, talk to me, ask me how my day was,” Wolfe said. “But there’s other times, once you rule out everything else, what else could it be?”

I have been to the place a couple of times... I always said there are certain places in there where you just get chills and the place is haunted.

I wish the photo were time stamped. That would make it a tad more believable. It does look a bit too real of a person to be what I would envision a ghost might look like but what do I know?

Just a few things that would make me question this pic right off the bat, and let me first say that I don't have the equipment or programs to really clean up the pic to verify so I am just speculating on this pic in the way that it is posted.....
There seems to be a shadow under the body. without being able to zoom in on the pic and clean it up it is hard to be 100% sure on my part but if there is a shadow a ghost would not be throwing one. With that said, if the door is closed, that door could be throwing the shadow too. All the other doors in the hallway are casting a shadow on the floor.
Also, it seems that the door at that spot is open. If you look at all the other doors it is clear that they are closed and yet from this angle it would seem that the door is opening as the "object" moves into it.
What does this mean? Well, let's go back to the shadow under the door for a moment...... If the shadow under the "object" is the door then for the door to cast that shadow it would have to be closed. If the door is open, then the room light would cancel out any shadows at the door area and the "object" would be causing the shadow therefore not making it anything paranormal in my experience.
One last thing, the walking pattern doesn't seem normal to me. The way the feet are close together it almost seems not a normal walking or standing for a person. Almost like it is, I don't want to say staged, but that is the best descriptive word I can come up with at the moment.
Again, this is just my initial thoughts as I look at this without being able to zoom in and clean up the pic.
I have an investigation tonight so I won't be able to look at this at home until sometime over the weekend.
It is an interesting picture but I am not ready to say it is paranormal.

While the picture does give me a rather creepy feeling (being a psychic, I get strange feelings while looking at photos), I really don't believe that man is a ghost. There is no reason for these people to lie, but at the same time, it looks rather strange. The only thing I'll say about how that man looks is that it appears he is having trouble walking, and he seems a bit hunched towards the doorframe for support... I don't know what to make of this. :O

The place does have a lot of history....
Quote:

This charming rustic property known as Allenberry-on-the-Yellow Breeches is part of a two farm tract originally owned by one James Crockett, said to be an uncle of Davy Crockett. James Crockett appears on the Cumberland County tax rolls in 1778. Since that time, there have been five principal owners of the property.

Having been to the place and being pretty open to these things, I can't say that I believe this picture is authentic, but I do know that you can "feel" strange things there sometimes...

I see a light through the door at the end of the hallway I can't identify.
I think it's a UFO landing.

The exit door at the end of the hall is right there. Is that an open door? Anyone could have come in that door.
I think non paranormal photo.

Anybody see the movie Paranormal?
They said so scary you won't sleep that night.
I thought it was a bit too predictable. I slept fine.

I did not find it as scary as Blairwitch. I thought the idea was cool though.
