Illegal dumping sites bring 83 tons of waste to county

A recent survey conducted by a non-profit environmental group determined that Delaware County is home to at least 26 illegal dumping sites containing an estimated 83 tons of waste.

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, a Greensburg, Pa.-based group that aims to empower the state’s residents to make communities clean and beautiful, conducted the survey beginning last fall. According to its findings, there are 26 sites in the county that contain from one-half ton to 15 tons of waste on public property.

The sites included in the report are all on public property and are mostly visible from roadways in the county. Dumps on private property were not included.

The illegally dumped garbage includes bagged trash, household trash, recyclables, household hazardous waste, tires, clean fill, construction and demolition waste, yard waste, electronics, furniture, mattresses and vehicle parts.
The city of Chester is home to 14 of the 26 dumping sites, accounting for an estimated total of 48 tons of waste.

In the city alone, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful’s surveyors counted 122 tires.

The largest dumping site in Delaware County — on Lawrence Road in Marple Township — contained 15 tons of debris.

Other illegal dumping sites were found in Colwyn, Darby Borough, Glenolden, Lower Chichester, Middletown Township, Ridley Township, Trainer, Upper Chichester and Upper Darby.

Surveyors did not visit high-crime areas for safety reasons.

The cost of getting rid of some household things is outrageous.
If you do not have a vehicle to haul it to a scrap yard to make money off it, then you have to put it out for the township to take which could cost a lot of money [up to $50} I am told.
Or put it out front and wait for the scavengers, I mean scrapers, to come and get it.
Some towns will fine you for leaving something out at the curb to many days too.
Tires alone will cost you $5 or 10 to have hauled away.
In Aston we pay a fee already for trash pickup yearly, we recycle everything we can, glass, plastic, paper, oil and liquids can be taken to the township bldg.
I can see why people would find other means of getting rid of things, when you already live on a limited income, just had to buy a new fridge or stove or whatever, the cost of having to pay for removal of the broke one is too much.
And I think, not sure, but I think in Chester you have to call the township and set up an appointment for them to come out to get it and pay for it.
If you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all.
I can only please one person a day, today is not your day...
    tomorrow is not looking
    good for you either.
Opinions are like A**holes, everyone's got one!!!!!
