WILDWOOD, N.J. - August 1, 2012 (WPVI) -- Four members of the same family have been sent to the hospital after a lightning strike at the New Jersey shore.
It happened just before 1:00 p.m. Wednesday near East Cedar Avenue in Wildwood.
Authorities say the four family members were huddled under an umbrella during a storm.
The family included two women, one of whom was pregnant, a man and a child. A bolt of lightning struck the beach near the family and the the man said he felt the electricity, rescuers said.
That man, as well as one of the women, were taken to the hospital right away.
The pregnant woman and the child left the beach and went home. Medics went to the home and took them to the hospital as well.
Rescuers said the four people were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
