Driving around to see Christmas lights with the kids in the back seat, cozy in their coats and perhaps pajamas, is a time-honored holiday tradition.
Sometimes you drive for miles on end and see mostly white lights, which are lovely and soothing to grown-up eyes, but can be a little disappointing to youngsters who want color and brilliance and pizzazz. (When you're a kid, you don't want holiday decorators to exercise restraint; you want them to give Clark Griswold a run for his money.)
In an effort to take the guesswork out of your Christmas-lights quests, we've scoured Lancaster County for displays that we think are worth the gas money.
Following are some Christmas-lights sites we think your family will enjoy. Where possible, they are grouped by geographic area, so you can visit two or three in an evening, and save the other sites for future expeditions.
You can download the LancasterOnline app, which will include a special section enabling smartphone users to see a list of all the properties with photos, and to access the interactive map while driving around.
